Product Review: Black Radiance True Complexion BB Cream with SPF 15

Introduction to the Review: So, again, I was on the hunt for new makeup.  I have an addiction… (I’ve admitted to that addiction and I’ve allotted myself a monthly allowance for my habit.)  I also try to do a lot of research on products prior to making a purchase.  In the past few months, I’ve added a new foundation, primer and powder to my collection…all were department store and costly.  I wanted to get a nice BB cream to wear on my normal work days so I wouldn’t have to wear heavy foundation on my skin every day and not pay an arm and a leg to get what I needed.  The added bonus of SPF and sheer color in BB creams also caught my attention.  I researched tons of drugstore BB creams and finally decided to purchase Black Radiance because the colors of the creams most resembled my deeper skin tone.  As you already know, I am a deep, dark shade with very golden undertones.   I went into CVS and was able to find Brown Sugar which looked like it had the undertones that I desired and it was also the darkest shade available.  What I didn’t know was that there is another shade called Coffee Glaze, which wasn’t at CVS, that looked like it would fit me better.  I’ll try to locate it at another location and let you know if that shade matches better than the Brown Sugar.  On the website, Brown Sugar looks more reddish while Coffee Glaze looks more golden.  Anyway…LOL.  I decided to pick up this BB cream to see if I could get some SPF coverage due to my bouts of hyperpigmentation around my eye and side eye areas; and to be able to sport a more natural look on days where I want to look more natural, but have little coverage.  I have to say, I love this BB cream and you will know why at the end of this review.

Price: $5.99 for 1 fl. Oz.

I happen to think this is an awesome price for the product.  I’ve read a lot of reviews online that state that they think this is a bit pricy.  I’ve never had a problem with the price point of Black Radiance products and, to be honest with you, I would pay more for this product at the same size because a little of this product goes a long way.  (Compared to other drugstore BB creams that I’ve researched, this one is cheaper–to me–and matches my deeper complexion a whole lot better.)  I’ve also noticed that there are a lot of $1 off coupons on Black Radiance products if you look good enough.  I was not able to find one at this particular time, but have in the past and have always been satisfied with the amount of product that you receive at the price.

Excuse my bottle…as you can tell, I’ve been using this a lot!!!

My Overall Review: I guess I already gave it away that I love this BB cream.  I love the design of the bottle that it comes in.  I love the squeeze mechanism.  I love just the overall beauty of the packaging.  LOL.  …and I love the coverage that the product provides for being so lightweight.  A little of this product goes a long way.  On days where I want a little more coverage, I use three squeezes and concentrate on my areas of interest like the areas where I have hyperpigmentation. This product is very buildable if that is something that you are looking for in a BB cream.

This is enough of the product for me on normal days where I am not looking for tons of coverage…

The product dries matte and with the right primer, I am able to sport this for over 8 hours without getting oily and looking like a complete grease monkey…lol.  To me, the claims of the product being lightweight, is an understatement.  Compared to the foundation that I use, this BB cream feels like I am wearing nothing on my face.    I lightly set it with a setting powder and the lightweight-ness of the cream feels so natural while looking natural at the same time.

The instructions state to re-apply every two hours.  I have to say that I didn’t have to do that, but I also used Benefit’s Porefessional Primer under the cream and set the cream with a lightweight setting powder.  I completed a whole workday with this product and I arrived home to notice minimal shine around my T-Zone area, which is a plus.  I have to admit, I don’t get this much wear out of some of the department store foundations that I’ve used in the past…so you know that I am so excited about this BB cream!

After about 7 hours of wear at work…

After about 9 hours of wear…still at overtime day. LOL The streak is from some Victoria’s Secret Highlighter I decided to use above my cheekbone.  Below my cheekbone is just the BB Cream set with translucent powder.

I am definitely going to buy this again and use this as a staple in my beauty collection.  At this price point, I’ll try out the Coffee Glaze and see which one works better with my complexion.

If you are a deeper skin tone, looking for something lightweight and build-able, grab the Black Radiance True Complexion BB Cream with SPF 15.  I am sure you won’t be disappointed…the price, the value of the product for the price and just the over performance of the product for the price is quite awesome.

Here are some YouTube Reviews that I found helpful prior to purchasing this BB Cream:

**Disclaimer: I purchased this product with my own dough on my own time and Black Radiance was not aware of this review.  I often review products that I purchase to not only help the content of this blog but to share products that I find helpful or not so helpful for someone of my skin tone and complexion.

(And just for reference, I’ve been using this BB cream almost every day for about a month now…just to give a good representation for this review.)

Until Next Time!

  1. I have been eying this and finally you have given me the ammunition that I needed to buy it. I needed to see how it covers. Question though…does it transfer or is it water proof?

    • MissTaNiaB! I am happy you will try it out. I love it. I have had very little issues of transfer, and when it does, it’s usually me doing something like touching my face. I’ve used other products…usually foundations that transfer heavily…and compared to that, I can honestly say that that particular issue is minimum when using the Black Radiance BB Cream.

      Thanks for stopping by!!!

      • You’re welcome….I will be sure to come back and visit. Great that’s allll I needed to hear. I will be trucking it to Walgreens today and prayerfully they have the Chocolate shade that I need. Thanks for following my blog doll 🙂

  2. Thanks for the great review!
I’ve been trying the Maybelline BB Cream, but the oil control factor is terrible. I always have to blot every few hours or I look like a mirror walking around on two feet.
I will definitely pick this one up. I think it will match my skin tone better as well being that the brand is marketed specifically towards women of color.

  3. I have been using Black Radiance BB Cream in Coffee is a true match and I love it!!! I tried 2 or 3 other brands of BB Creams prior to Black Radiance, and they all Broke Me Out!!! Black Radiance not only gave me a perfect color match, but it did NOT break me out? The price is perfect for such a wonderful product. So ladies, if you are on the fence about this product, jump off and run to your nearest Walmart, Walgreens, etc and buy won’t be disappointed. By the way, I am. 59 year old Black woman who, I’m told by everyone, looks like I’m in my late 30’s.

  4. I picked this up in two shades since I want sure. For the price I didn’t mind picking up the two. Been playing around with it this week and it’s fantastic! The coverage is amazing for BB cream. I have oily skin and even my oil starts to break through I don’t look like a complete oil slick. It holds up nicely through out the day. I’m so excited I tried this product out.

  5. I recently purchased the brown sugar bb cream and it was a perfect match for my dark brown skin. I never wear foundation and concealers but i wanted to try something new. I removed the bb cream. In the morning i woke up to a face full of teeny tiny bumps that wont go away. So sensitve skin people beware. I may have to go see a dermatologist.
